A Message from Our Executive Director...

To All Staff, Trustees and Parents

"THE WINTRY west extends his blast,
And hail and rain does blaw;
Or the stormy north sends driving forth
The blinding sleet and snaw:
While, tumbling brown, the burn comes down,
And roars frae bank to brae;
And bird and beast in covert rest,
And pass the heartless day." Robert Burns; The Dirge

Unlike Robert Burns' description in the first verse of his poem The Dirge, I trust your Christmas and Festive season has been filled with much warmth, fun and good family time.

May I extend a WARM welcome back to our children, young people, staff, parents and members of our Board of Trustees as we enter 2018 in anticipation of all things prosperous, good and successful.  It is my desire that your East Park experience in 2018 and beyond will transcend and exceed your personal and work expectations.  It is an opportunity to be involved, interact with and take hold of the many opportunities that are available at East Park. It is time to take responsibility of, partner with and take steps that will ensure the organizations presence in the CASN (Complex Assisted Supported Needs) sector is maximized and its reach extended.

In our ever-changing residential care and educational setting in Scotland, it is imperative that we move rapidly and effectively in positioning ourselves in anticipation of the inevitable political and social changes that are coming and indeed are here.  We need to increase our capacity and appetite for structured and effective change that will see East Park at the forefront of providing care and education to young people with complex learning disabilities and behavioural challenges. To this end we need to increase our agility in how we address our service and provision.  Our current working and learning landscape is significantly a base and canvas to produce our best and become a leader in our field.

It is an exciting time to work at East Park, and indeed a time of opportunity and progress for all our young people.  By maximizing our achievements and robustly utilizing the skill base within our organisation, collaboratively working with our local authorities and engaging with other independent organisations, East Park has much to look forward to.

I look forward to working with the East Park team, engaging with our parents and other important stakeholders and together taking our organisation on a journey that will lead to the success of every child and young person that attends East Park now and in the future.

Kieron O'Brien
